DIY Abstract Art With A Golden Touch. Hi, it’s Ashley from Star and Arrow Designs! I’m so excited to share this DIY art tutorial with you guys. Spring is officially upon us, and I thought we would create an abstract piece to add a vibrant and textured pop to your home. I wanted to do a piece that ANYONE could do. I am a perfectionist and for that reason, have a hard time letting go and creating abstract art. I was painting with my toddler last week, and in 3. Looked like I needed to learn a lesson or two from him- let the fun messy part of art take over. So, here we are, a messy, random and colorful painting tutorial. This was one of my first dips into abstract art AND acrylic paints, so it is by no means perfect, but the process is a fun one! ![]() Here it is: Materials: Butcher or wrapping paper. Canvas- I bought a 2- pack of 1. This project WILL get messy so I recommend covering everything you don’t want paint splattered. This covers the woven canvas texture. Generously add globs of modeling paste onto the canvas. Featuring art, art prints, paintings, photography, graphic design, typography and other forms of art by artists from around the world. Be sure to cover the surface of the canvas, but this is meant to build up texture. Be sure to let this dry before moving to the next step. Once you decide where you would like your gold leaf, use a small paint brush to apply a thin layer of Elmer’s glue or Metal leaf adhesive onto the canvas. Wash your brush immediately with warm soapy water. Apply the gold leaf flakes (I used my fingers) in a thick layer to the glue. There isn’t much rhyme or reason to this part. You will be adding a second layer after painting, so don’t fuss too much about it being perfect. If you are using a sealer, wait for the glue/adhesive to dry before using your brush again to paint it over the flakes. The sealer will flatten and coat the gold leaf. Saloua Raouda Choucair, a Lebanese artist and one of the first abstractionists in the Arab world, whose sense of line and form An abstract is an abbreviated version of your science fair project final report. For most science fairs it is limited to a maximum of 250 words (check the rules for. ![]() You can watch a timelapse video of the process here. Next, create a color sample. You may have figured out what colors you want to use, but doing a “practice run” will help you figure out how you want to put them all together. I like to do this on a piece of sketchbook or scrap paper. I squeezed globs of paint directly to the canvas and used pieces of chip board (cardboard) to lightly stroke down the paint. You can also apply the paint to the chip board and apply it that way. This keeps the paint thick and easy to blend. It also keeps that yummy thick texture without showing the white canvas or brush strokes. I had a few different chip board pieces for my different colors, but found that I liked keeping the chip board pieces a little messy because it blends in different colors. Don’t worry about balancing all the colors. In fact, I think abstract art looks best when it isn’t balanced perfectly. Painting Tips: Layer, layer, layer. This paint is all about layers and layers add dimension. Blend when it is wet, layer when it is dry. Step back or even take a picture of your progress and look at it. I find this helps me see funky spots that need more color or touching up. Get a second perspective. React to the gold foil- I used thin pieces of chip board and really tried to respond to the gold flakes, and used the shape of the gold foil to shape my painting. Beauty in randomness! Once your paint has dried, you may want to add in some more gold leaf. Same steps as above, apply the glue/adhesive and then the flakes. I scattered a couple flakes over the paint to add some more dimension. I think there are a couple spots I may layer some more, but overall, I am happy with how this project turned out. Like I said, I am a total nubie when it comes to abstract art, but I loved this project! Once you get started, it’s fun to get crazy with it. XO, Ashley. Lauren Cohan says Maggie will seek vengeance on Negan. The entire reason Negan did what he did in the season premiere of The Walking Dead was to make Rick utterly and completely submissive. The Dead Don`t Care About Vengeance Lyrics. But did the big bad miscalculate in a major way by ignoring the pregnant widow he left kneeling next to her dead husband? Because while Rick is the established leader of Alexandria, Maggie has been evolving into a leader in her own right of late. But what did this act do to Maggie? LAUREN COHAN: It’s funny because Negan already sees that Maggie has submitted in a way because she’s so physically crippled, and I think that once the worst has happened, then that surge of adrenaline comes and there’s nothing she can do. And there’s nothing left to do. There’s no worse case scenario now. But what Negan’s actions do to Maggie is light this crazy fuse. Webzine metal / punk et d. A Lesson In Vengeance 04. Overrun with undead that don And we’ll see that burn pretty strong. I think it’s very Glenn that she gets up and insists on taking his body and she wants to protect him and give him a funeral that he deserves and that overcomes all the inhibition. And so Negan gives Maggie vengeance, and I don’t think that she’s a vengeful person, but It’s going to be a really interesting push and pull this season. And so Negan gives Maggie vengeance, and I don. Let's bring back the Dead. You’ll see how she lives on in honor of Glenn and in vengeance of Negan, and it’s a real war in her brain, and in protection of the baby. I really liked the fact that Glenn says, . It’s difficult to even encapsulate the grief like that. RELATED: The Walking Dead Cast and Crew Pay Tribute to Steven Yeun. We. And as horrible as this event was, it sort of occurred to me, is this the final step that turns Maggie into this full- blown leader? Because we see her even in her immense, painstaking grief, sort of taking control there at the end, and telling people, here’s what has to happen next. I think that she needs to cope and she needs to push forward, and it’s just that next task that she can take. And as things go on, she needs to do right by people and honor her husband and take care of her child, and those things might become things that make a good person to look up to. But she’s trying to do the right thing at this point, and she keeps him in her mind. We’ll see Maggie being very pragmatic and what we all know by now is that those people need to live on in her, or otherwise it’s all for naught, basically. But there’s a lot of anger ahead in this road for the group and it’s a very complex season. This fallout now is so heavy. It’s really rich, and the places that we see everybody go, and the worlds everybody’s going in to and how they’re all dealing with losing Glenn and Abraham . I mean, there’s been so much loss to this point, and this is just the entire house of cards. There are a few storylines that comic book fans look forward to and are excited to see, and I think that Maggie at the Hilltop is certainly one of them. And we know she’s on her way there now and I think people are really excited to see her in this place and what she becomes out of this. It’s a really interesting spiritual journey that she goes on. Sasha and her are gonna be incredibly tight and they really need each other, and they really lean on each other. Within all the drive and the violence that the group has to perform and to undergo, there is going to be honor to our fallen. 35 Years Ago: The Police Release Their Smartest, Trickiest Album, Ghost is the fictional superhero of an eponymous comic book published by American company Dark Horse Comics. They even started over, in a sense, by recording in new studios with a new producer. With the leap in sales and chart position came more control, and the band took the opportunity to delve deeper into subjects and themes not typically found in pop music. According to the Pew Research Forum, only 2. Americans know a Hindu. The memories of previous botched attempts were even papered over when the host of the series, Reza Aslan, laid out the premise of the show way back in 2.

It soon become clear that the first episode would focus on the Aghoris, a small sect of Hinduism, an even smaller subset of which practices cannibalism. Varanasi, that beautiful and ancient city steeped in culture and tradition, would be reduced to . Vamsee Juluri so eloquently points out in a typically brilliant piece on this platform, CNN. Because as gruesome and problematic as Juluri makes the episode out to be, the actual thing turns out to be many, many times worse. In this entire episode, Aslan appears to. Here, even as the Hindu community rushes en masse to diffuse the fire of potential distortion that zooming in on the cannibalistic Aghoris can cause for a religion that is already so poorly understood in the West, each of Aslan. Indeed, while its focus on the Aghoris has an obvious potential for conflation with all Hindu pratice, what is truly most disturbing about Aslan. Caste is a defining part of Hindu theology, stratifying society so that those on the lowest stratum are condemned to a life of shoveling excrement. Because they believe, . Therefore, unlike the rest of Hindu society, the Aghoris are unique in accepting even the Dalits into their fold and allowing them a path to liberation (moksha). It is in search of this Aghori idea of openness that Reza journeys through Varanasi. First, let. The system of social classification in Hinduism is known as the varnashrama system. Bhagavan Sri Krishna notes that one becomes a Brahmin through knowledge, a Kshatriya through martial skill, a Vaishya through enterprise, and a Shudra through selfless service (BG 1. In fact, Krishna is sure to remind us that this classification is not based on birth by repeatedly using the phrase svabhava prabhavaih (. Finally, in the other major epic, the Mahabharata, when Bharadwaja inquires of Bhrigu why the varnas exist and what their distinction is, Bhrigu replies, . The exchange goes onto expound that differentiation between varnas comes from one. The point of the varnashrama system, as Swami Prabhupada and others have put it, was therefore to provide a systematization to allow people to find the opportunities best suited to them in life, and to work towards perfection in their svadharma (i. Yet, Aslan feels the need to search for a Hinduism . This is all the more ironic since throughout the show Aslan lampoons the Aghoris. Ratings, after all, are king. If he was truly interested in a . If he was interested in only . Sadly, it appears the subject matter. Yet, I will recount just one more here. Throughout the episode, Aslan says the Aghoris believe that . The resulting overtone is that the ordinary Hindu thinks of God as sitting somewhere outside the Universe and judging how . This is pure fiction; none of the Hindu sampradayas conceive of God in this way. In fact, in much of Hinduism, God is believed to both include and interpenetrate the Universe. The sixth verse of the Ishopanishad encapsulates this idea: He who sees systematically everything in relation to the Supreme Lord, who sees all living entities as His parts and parcels, and who sees the Supreme Lord within everything never hates anything or any being. This is the reason why Hindus are so . Not because we are programmed by antiquated notions of purity, but because we see Brahman (God) as a cosmic force that binds us together with all other living beings. How, then, could we ethically consume meat? In the face of all the connections he draws to Hinduism for context, and given that the whole point of his . You see, as a minority in general, I. I see this when scholars who are so protective of other immigrant groups have no qualms in condescendingly lashing out when Hindu students ask questions about their work. The truth is I believe that it is an abhorrent practice; my desire to disconnect it from my religious tradition should be seen as evidence of this fact. And I do think that we Hindus need to do way more to combat it. But is using caste to falsely contextualize a remote spiritual practice going to serve any progressive end? Aslan claims his purpose was. Threats and bomb scares are circulating widely. This is a time when other cultures should be humanized and depicted with care by the mainstream news media. And yet, CNN, for all its supposedly principled stand against anti- immigrant politics, is going to make Monday morning miserable and fearful for thousands of innocent people in America. Not the allegedly anti- immigrant politicians and media. Not Breitbart, not Fox News, nor even that reckless Twitter handle that has replaced traditional press briefings. But CNN. And, I am saddened to say, the host of the show, Reza Aslan too, who is about to do a complete U- turn from the important role he played to defuse Islamophobia in America in the painful years after 9/1. Iraq war. For the last few days, CNN has been promoting an episode of Believer with the title . The ghoulish promos appear on social media frequently, and what is ghoulish about them is not just the brazen voyeurism towards the deceased and their families, but the total destruction of the culture of piety and respect that surrounds funeral rites. The text in these promos spew total errors and lies as ? Or Reza, a renowned public commentator on religion and nice guy? And to whom on earth is the most sacred city of Hindus known as ? A complete hoax. What promises to be even worse than the callous misrepresentation and dehumanization of a widely practiced tradition marking love to those who have gone is the episode. If the promos and reviews are any indication, American viewers from all over the land will be treated to a spectacle about bizarre, painted, ash- smeared, bearded men eating half- burnt corpses as a part of their spiritual practice. It is one saddening reality that despite having had immigrants in America for so many decades now, a major news channel like CNN still cannot do better than the old Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom sort of story when it comes to India. But what is even more callous is the fact that CNN and Reza Aslan seem oblivious to the kind of discomfort and even danger that images like this could create for South Asians, Sikhs, Muslims and other brown people in America. Here is a simple empathy question: would anyone in their right mind, or with a kind heart, have done a kitschy and voyeuristic program about an obscure and violent cult of Muslims on CNN in the years after 9/1. Why was Reza Aslan, a pleasant and articulate professor, welcomed as the face of Muslims in America on national TV and not some obscure hooded figure burning with fundamentalist zeal and violence? Common sense, and sheer decency, called for such a choice, and it was an apt one. And yet, at a time when fears are high, and many people in America know so little about their diverse neighbors, a major news channel is going to peddle a shallow tale about dangerous and outlandish others. Maybe there is some noble higher purpose that the show. But unfortunately, that is only a theoretical conceit. In truth, what CNN is perpetuating is a very racist, colonial era discourse of dehumanization and even demonization. In the 1. 92. 0s, an American writer named Katherine Mayo wrote a powerful, poisonous, and highly influential book called Mother India. The very first chapter of Mother India spends 2. Later, it would turn out that Mayo, an anti- immigrant and anti- labor zealot (who was at first naively supported by Indians in America who thought she would help them gain immigration rights), was more or less in cahoots with British intelligence seeking to defuse the popular support Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian freedom movement were gaining among Americans. Mayo tried very hard to have India branded as . She eviscerates all sense of humanity in the lives of Indians, reducing them to a spectacle of torture, delusion, false religion, disease, and most of all, death. She does this all clinically, in the name of science, hygiene, and civic concern. Now, one hundred years later, an alarming moment in American political history has once again stoked fears of the other. Demagogues are labelling whole nationalities and religions as dangers to America, and criminals are feeling empowered perhaps to act on all the fears and resentments they harbor. At a time like this, media should be very responsible and not feed the frenzy with falsehoods and stereotypes of Hindus (or anyone) as death- obsessed cadaver- eating cultists.
